The Hexagram Sequence
The hexagrams are listed in their correct sequence according to Fu Hsi or the Early Heaven arrangement. There are 16 hexagrams in each season and they are listed in that order Part One includes the winter hexagrams. Part Two includes the spring hexagrams. Part Three includes the summer hexagrams. Part Four includes the Autumn hexagrams. Which season a hexagram is in can be determined from the bottom two lines of each hexagram.
If the bottom line is solid and the 2nd line is broken then that hexagram will be in the winter section, because the light is increasing and the darkness is greater.
If the bottom line is solid and the 2nd line is solid then that hexagram will be in the spring section, because the light is increasing and the daylight is greater.
If the bottom line is broken and the 2nd line is solid then that hexagram will be in the summer section, because the darkness is increasing and the daylight is greater.
If the bottom line is broken and the 2nd line is broken then that hexagram will be in the autumn section, because the darkness is increasing and the darkness is greater.
On this site each season is divided into a light or dark half as signified by the third line.
